We are super excited to announce a new podcast that Allen Cason, Jim Morrow, Brett Maddocks have started called The Podechesis Podcast (the title is explained here). The idea behind this podcast is to have a conversation about what Christians believe and why it matters. To guide our discussion, we will be using John Wesley’s Revision of the Shorter Catechism which you can find here.

We will be posting more “show notes” for episode one tomorrow, June 1st. Until then, take a listen to the trailer and go ahead and start episode one.

The way that the church has taught disciples to obey Christ is through Catechism.  Catechism comes from the Greek word meaning “to teach orally.”  Catechism is a summary of doctrines and practices that are taught to students, Catechumens, through a set pattern of instruction called Catechesis.

From the very beginning of the church the teaching office of the church has been an important component of growing God’s Kingdom and making disciples.  In fact, in the Great Commission, Jesus tells his disciples to “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20, emphasis mine).

The Podechesis Podcast’s goal is to carry out this great tradition of teaching the faith by having a discussion of the Westminster Shorter Catechism, a question and answer order of teaching the faith.
