Cheap grace doesn’t make disciples. Obedience does.
In this episode of the Podechesis Podcast, Brett Maddocks, Allen Cason, and Jim Morrow continue to unpack Robert Coleman’s The Master Plan of Evangelism and press into the uncomfortable but freeing truth that discipleship is not about information alone—it’s about surrender, daily obedience, and a life transformed by Jesus’ lordship. You’ll discover:
- why “If you love me, keep my commands” is more than a verse you can quote
- how John 8, Romans 6, Luke 9, Deuteronomy 6, and Ephesians 1 all shape a theology of obedience
- the difference between cheap grace and costly grace in Bonhoeffer’s terms
- why consecration is a daily practice, not a one-time decision
- how accountability, encouragement, covenant, and holy conferencing help disciples actually grow
Jim brings a Wesleyan lens to sanctification and the role of accountable Christian community. Allen shares how personal worship, solitude, silence, and hearing the Father’s voice shape daily surrender. Brett connects the dots with Scripture, Bonhoeffer, and the practical challenge of living as a disciple maker without becoming legalistic or controlling. This episode is a needed reminder that Jesus does not call us to admire him from a distance. He calls us to follow, to cling to his teaching, to be shaped by his Spirit, and to live as people who are being made new from the inside out. We hope this discussion helps you move from passive belief to active, Spirit-empowered discipleship.
